However, I'm almost certain it was hsd1.ca. when I first got service hooked up. I didn't know the DNS suffix was switched until Norton was flagging all sort of these errors from any Windows system I would boot up. I've always used Coax equipment in the past and never had any issues. This Modem Pairs with the cable box and is the only option for my location since this is such a new service where it connects direct to fiber coming into the apartment. The Wireless router/gateway is a PC X5001. :(Įverything seemed fine for the first week or so but then I had a VERY SUSPICIOUS issue where the modem switched from the DNS suffix hsd1.ca. to after about a week of using the new service. For some stupid reason the new building I moved into does not have Coax hook-ups so I was forced to use the Comcast EPON equipment listed below. I ran into a nasty issue after I moved to my new apartment. Is anyone using this Equipment and are you getting Connection-specific DNS Suffix ? I prefer not to rent equipment so if there is a new type of modem needed I would prefer to buy something they would support rather than doing a rental.

Can I buy my own compatible modem? I assume IPV6 only? my service is over coax now, does this mean they have to run fiber in for this service? XB6 seems to be a DOCSIS 3.1 technology device. "However with the gigabit speed we will provide you the new upgraded modem that is Xb6 also your fibre cables will change as well so you will get the correct speed". I would need to know that my existing CPE infrastructure (I run a Fortinet 61E hardware firewall that uses a Cat5e connection to a DOCSIS cable modem and uses IPV4 addressing) would not be impacted (well my current firewall can't take advantage of those speeds but I'd consider upgrading it or doing a VM FW installation). The rep was not able to answer questions about what kind of equipment and addressing is used for the connection. While not symmetrical this would be a huge improvement for me as the current upload speed limit is getting painful. The service was advertised as 1,000mbps down and 35mbps up for $89 a month. I'm considering cutting the cord from my current Xfinity Internet (150mbps/5mbps) + TV package and was surprisingly informed over chat with Xfinity that gigabit service is available in my area.
