But there are many helpful tutorials on YouTube that helped me when I first started playing. Like CK3, there's a steep learning curve to CK2, and the tutorial is horrid. If graphics and time aren't your concern, I would strongly recommend playing the base game for CK2 first (it's free!) and learn the basics. People obviously prefer the graphics to CK3, as you watch your ruler grow up in real-time, not to mention the more aesthetically pleasing game map. You can pay a monthly subscription to paradox for all of the DLC's for CK2 (although I bought them for pennies on G2A, sorry paradox :/), otherwise you would be paying upwards of £100 to play all of the DLC's.ĬK3, while barebones right now, is good for new players who want to get into the franchise. Take this with a pinch of salt though, since I'm probably biased in the matter.Ĭrusader Kings, both 2 and 3 (any paradox game, really), have a lot of content locked behind DLC paywalls. Like its predecessors Crusader Kings and Crusader Kings II, Crusader Kings III is a grand strategy game and dynasty simulator set in the Middle. A PlayStation 5 code was provided by the publisher for this review. As it stands, Crusader Kings 3: Console Edition is the platonic ideal for console ports when it comes to strategy games. For me, this is so much worse than having to move your armies manually since it makes getting jumped by a revolt or declared war on easier. It falls only slightly short of the PC version’s greatness simply through the game being built from the ground up for desktop gameplay. CK3, however, makes combat a lot easier by raising an army at a 'rally point' in one county. In CK2, every troop levy (whether it be from your vassals or from yourself) is raised in or around their counties, meaning you have to form the complete army manually. I'm certain it's down to my knowledge of CK2, but CK3 is SO MUCH EASIER. Character portraits are now rendered as 3D models that change depending on traits and physical conditions, and several core gameplay systems have been reworked. I did the tutorial and found things to be much more streamlined and easy to grasp. I bought CK3 after getting many years of enjoyment out of CK2.
